In this time of financial upheaval and uncertainty, many, including myself, have called for leadership, sometimes shouting that our politicians are not only lost, but have lost the ability to lead. We yearn for strong men like, Truman, Roosevelt, Washington, and Jefferson; and courageous women such as, Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meir, or Mother Teresa.
Those great men and women, and dozens more like them are gone; and wishing cannot bring them back. Pining for the return of past leaders is useless. We don’t need them anyway; they’d be dumbfounded and more lost than we are. No, what we need is for a new generation to step up to the plate and LEAD.
We’re surrounded by unacknowledged leaders, perhaps we are one. What is necessary is for someone to take the helm, shout out some orders, and steer. Potential Washingtons live among us; we may encounter them at a sales meeting, hear them address a public gathering; it’s even possible one stares back from our morning mirror.
Now, more than ever, our country needs leadership, and not just from the Oval Office, but from the school board, the town council, the mayor’s office, or the state legislature. Our political system has been corrupted from within; let’s take it back from without, by vigorously participating in the process. Those who cannot fill the offices can support and work with those who do; they can volunteer in hundreds of ways, and help restore order to a system desperate for redemption.
If you have a few minutes, watch this video and be inspired to participate in the solution.
